Thoughts of the Pops
It's Friday. If we were comedy New Zealand popstar Daniel Bedingfield we'd be all over excited because our girlfriend was coming back today from some place, possibly San Jose. Of course, it's a good thing we're not as not only would we be considered to be a talented, but annoying, arse, we'd also be having some thoughts regarding our new sister that could only be described as dubious. As it is, we're not, those thoughts are no longer dubious, merely unpleasant, and instead we watched Top of the Pops. Here's what we learnt:-
- Gwen Stefani opened the show with the Weezer Hash Pipe aping What You Waiting For. She started off in silhouette behind a curtain, had four dancing Japanese schoolgirls and some examples of topiary on stage. In other words it was fucking ace.
- Eminem, still on a boat, did Like Toy Soldiers. It's not as good as we were expecting, no doubt down to the fact that every second word was reversed, but it does feature Martika so we'll let it off for now.
- Robbie Williams is voicing Dougal in the new Magic Roundabout film. Of course, this isn't the first time he's been involved with a dog.
- The performance of Lose My Breath by Destiny's Child was not, alas, breathtaking.
- JoJo, the new Aaron Carter only not as girly sounding, is in the charts with Baby, It's You. She seems to have gone through an unexpected growth spurt, judging by how high her jacket was riding.
- Robbie has balanced out the aceness of Radio with the utter mediocrity of Misunderstood and thus, all is right with the world again. Apart from the ongoing career of Chris Moyles, that is.
- Girls Aloud, as we've already mentioned, are at number one. Muted hoorays. Their performance, apart from one former flame haired lady, was a little bit off key, but they looked pretty so we'll forgive them.
