Thoughts of the Pops
It's Friday! If we were Rick Witter out of indie also-rans Shed 7, we might be a bit miffed as today our girlfriend would leave us and ruin our weekend. We'd also have the honour of being an example of rhyming slang, but at least we'd be safe in the knowledge that we did at least one good thing in our life - Disco Down. We're not Rick Witter, so instead we settled down to watch Top of the Pops. Here's what we learnt:-
- Wet Wet Wet opened the show with their country tinged new single, All I Want, and proved that they're just as good as they've always been, i.e. rubbish.
- Fresh from informing us that life in a boy band is a bit fake and out of touch with reality, Brian McFadden returns with Irish Son, offering the insightful and hitherto unvoiced view that an overly strict Catholic lifestyle might not be the best of environments to bring up a child. We look forward with eager anticipation to his third single, the heartfelt ballad "What do Bears Use to Wipe Their Arses, As There's No Bog Roll in the Woods"
- Natasha Bedingfield has been to Japan.
- Jamie Cullum proved that his complete destruction of Lovecats at the Brit Awards was no fluke, by turning his 'talents' to a cover of Everlasting Love and completely fucking that up as well. The cunt.
- Kylie's Scissor Sister penned new single, I Believe in You is ace. Wrapping a roll of cheap blue fabric around yourself to perform it, however, isn't.
- Faceless dance boffin, Michael Gray, who TotP helpfully pointed out at the end of his performance, has clearly written The Weekend with an eye on the potential royalties from soundtracking programme trails on your favourite mainstream television channel.
Eric Prydz is still at number one.Sorry, force of habit. It's actually Eminem who's at the top spot this week.
