Thoughts of the Pops
Despite the fact that not only are they one of the best bands around right now, but they also entered the charts at number 2, Girls Aloud were not deemed worthy of a performance on Top of the Pops tonight. If anyone can explain to us on exactly what planet this decision made any sense, let us know, as we're at a complete loss. Despite reeling from that news, we still had just enough concentration left to focus on the show. Here's what we learnt:-
- The Corrs are back! And they appear to have lost one of the sisters. Either that or the drummer has gotten fed up of dressing in drag.
- Good Charlotte are back! And they're showing off a more mature, grown up sound. Just think for a moment about how dull they were when they had a younger, less mature sound. Now imagine just how much duller they're going to sound now. Well, it's worse.
- Razorlight are, ummm, still around! And they've nicked the intro to Vice from The Raveonettes' That Great Love Sound. While they may be magpies, at least they steal gold rather than gilt, as this is rather fab, even if this was quite a weak sounding live performance.
- Joss Stone is back! She still has the best eyes in pop, though paradoxically, we're not actually convinced she has any eyeballs.
- Green Day are back! Again! As this time they don't sound like The Levellers or, for that matter, Good Charlotte we'll let them off.
- U2 are back! Again! Again! And they're still as deathly dull as ever! But they've learnt how to count in a foreign language! Which we believe counts as stretching the boundaries of what we call music in their dad-rock world! Exclamation mark!
- And finally, Eric Prydz is at number one! Blimey! Hasn't the Green Goddess aged well?
