Thoughts of the Pops
We thought that Tim Kash leaving Top of the Pops would be the solution to all our problems. Alas, once again, bitter experience rears it's ugly head and we discover that it's not the case as we endured one of the worst editions we've seen in a long time. Here's what we learnt:-
- In the year 2004 it is apparently OK to write songs that sound like Status Quo and The Beach Boys jamming together on a particularly dull and uncreative day. Cheers, McFly!
- Despite performing a song called Pieces of Me, Ashley Simpson is entirely unable to pronounce the word 'Pieces'. For tonight's performance, the role of Ashley was played by Dannii Minogue.
- TotP have a new feature where they show brief video clips of some of this weeks' new entries. This is what we believe is known as 'Blatant filler'. On the plus side, it does mean that there's a chance that Annie will appear on next weeks' show, albeit only for 20 seconds.
- Minnie Driver cannot lipsynch for love nor money. Nor, it seems, can she write a memorable tune.
- Unfortunately we had to take a phone call, so missed most of Marilyn Manson's performance of Personal Jesus. From what we saw of it though, he seemed to out-pop most of the proper popstars.
- Fortunately we had to take a phone call, so missed most of Brian
AdamsMcFadden's performance of his new number one. It turns out that what's real to him is having a dodgy beard, holding an acoustic guitar, and turning out the sort of turgid crap that would have even Mike and the Mechanics thinking, "God, this is a bit dull, maybe we should jazz it up a little"
